The extraordinary sejm in Warsaw. 1624.

The sejm was convened in November 1623, as an extraordinary one, to take place on 6 February 1624. The pre-sejm sejmiks were held in January 1624. Contrary to the king’s expectations, tendencies reluctant to waging war against Sweden in Livonia came to light. The sejm debated from 11 January to 27 April 1624. Jan Łowicki, the starosta [“starostwo” was a Polish term for eldership office] of Brześć and Kujawy, was elected the marshal. During the proceedings much time was spent on debating the internal national security, breached by groups of “dissolute figures”. The matter of defending the Eastern Borderlands, especially Ukraine, was taken care of separately. A special resolution on wojsko kwarciane [quarter army] was adopted.
